“Contrapunctus- 12” is a two voice canon (think Freres Jaques) which is a canon at the octave. It is the simplest construction of a canon.
The presentation is straightforward. The two voices of the theme wend their way with each other an octave apart. This first canon is very much akin to the first contrapunctus. Both the fugue and the canon are straightforward simple presentation of a canonic theme.
While reminiscent of the original theme, this canonic theme is by now extended and ornamented while keeping a visual simplicity. The canons are presented in 2 or 3 voices only which makes for a pared down visual presentation in keeping with the way the canons sound.
