“Abbot Suger- the Dream of Light”. Abbot Suger was at St.Denis near Paris in 1123 CE. He had a vision of light flooding into the edifice. That required windows in heavy masonry walls. But how to do it. By making a vault not a wall, the weight and force of the building could be directed toward a portion of the wall leaving it available for ‘a window’.
The light Abbot Sugar envisioned flooded in, the Gothic Structure was born and the miracle of light changed the faces of the people to joy and expectation.
