“Ad Quad-3” explores how space beyond the immediate central square is affected by the inevitable intersections of arcs and diagonals formed by the bonding square. There is more here than immediately meets the eye. What appears to be just circles and squares might suddenly snap our minds to see that nothing is random and yet, has the feeling of a kind of arbitrary placement.
As a professor of mine said, “Nothing could be arbitrary. You would not cut stone #20,416 lug it up onto the wall and have it not fit.” I think of that every time I see one of these buildings. If something doesn’t exactly fit, the next question is, “By what measure does it not fit?” this can lead to some pretty powerful new explorations.
