I love working with blending colors. There’s a term “Just Noticeable Difference” (JND). There is an industry that has grown up around this concept. In a nutshell, JND is a perceptual thing. What is important, a range of perception exists where a difference remains imperceptible until it is isn’t. Using my vector program, I can generate palettes quickly and periodically do sets of color blending.
“Apparition-Light” is a demonstration of the power of precisely mixed colors to generate color and light effects. Take a close look at the image and try to see the grid. The effect of the yellow streak overpowers the fact that the streak is nothing but a blend.
Artists working in paint are constantly mixing subtle nuances of coloring. I know, because I friends who can, and so do I. What I wanted to do with “Apparition-Light” was to focus on the effect in a formal way.
