If we have a large circle and a small circle and they do not overlap, the smaller circle will appear to us to be in the distance. It is a fact of our myopic vision that the closer objects are to us, the bigger they appear. Most of us say they are bigger.
There is another subtle issue with this particular image which has to do with how light in our eye is focused. Red focused in front of the retina and blue focuses behind. Blue light will always feel “out of focus”. You might want to look again at this Ad Quad.
