“My print” was produced in the first year after art school. It was my announcement as an artist. this was one of three etchings and reflected a fascination at that time with abandoned buildings. It always bothered me that a place that had been called home was left to the vagaries of time and erosion.

And so I applied all the skill I had at my disposal to give these subjects a certain nobility.

There is a deeper subtext that we all grow into which is “mortality”. It is a common denominator. Somewhere along the way, I learned a bay Chorale Prelude “Alles Menschen Müssen Sterben” All people must die.

An artist usually puts more into a work than they are aware of. In this case, I spend time looking at that one intact pane and thinking, “There’s hopefully a bit that we leave behind amongst the rubble.” I wonder if leaving that intact pane wasn’t some deeper impulse.
